PROTECT

The Rights of Others

As Knights we have a strong sense of duty to defend the rights of others

PROMOTE

The Reformed Faith

This duty is defined by our Protestant Reformed faith and Chivalric Code

PRACTICE

Practical Faith in Action

We put this faith into action, defending and caring for others.

Fighting for Freedom

For almost 1000 Years our Order has defended the Rights of Others
The Order was founded to protect others. It began by providing basic human rights like healthcare, but soon developed into what can only be termed the first international Human Rights organisation. It not only continued to provide healthcare though a series of hospitals in countries across Europe and the Middle East, but also literally fought to protect the rights of others, most notably the right to life. Its Christian principles and Chivilric ethos taught the Order to value life at a time when it was cheap, and to promote the rights of all at a time when it was assumed they were only the domain of the rich and powerful. Today we continue those principles and practical example. Our focus remains on the Christain faith which continues to face persecution and extinction in many places around the world. However the rights we campaign for are Human Rights and we advoacte them for all.

Fighting for Freedom for a Thousand Years

Defending Human Rights Internationally for Over 1000 Years

The Bible is the Basis of Human Rights as we are all Created Equal in the Image of God

We value the equality and inalienable rights of all because we believe we are all created in the image of God, and find our true meaning in a right relationship with him.

We operate Internationally as a Human Rights Watch and Humanitarian Organisation

From our origins as a hospitaller order providing healthcare to our present day role as an international defender of Human Rights we have been guided by our faith and knightly vows.

We defend Western Democratic Principles as a Glorious legacy of the Protestant Reformation

We believe that true faith, true democracy and true enlightenment came at the Reformation, when God’s Word was redicovered and redictributed in the language of the common man.

Membership of the Order

Are you Worthy to Wear the Colours and Cross of Our Ancient Order
For over ten centuries men of faith and courage have 'taken the cross' and joined our Order to defend their faith. From the lonely Crusader Castles and walls of Jerusalem, to the island fortress of Malta to today's battlefields our Order has never been found wanting. It is often the brave chosen few who make that stand against overwhelming odds, just as God chose Gideon and his few in number so today He does not need the many and the multitude, but those few who have the faith and courage to stand.

“ Qualification of Candidates ”

Any person seeking admission into the Ancient and Illustrious Order of Knights of Malta or Knights Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem must be a member or adherent of a Protestant Church; have a sincere love and veneration for the Almighty Creator; a firm and stedfast belief in the existence and functions of the Holy Trinity; in the Protestant doctrine of salvation by faith alone; and in the Holy Scriptures as the only rule of faith and practice.

PROTECTING Human Rights

Our forebearers fought for the rights of the most poor and vulnerable providing healthcare and humitarian aid. Today we continue this work through a range of initiatives.

“ Getting Rights Right”

Long before Rights were defined or afforded to the ordinary man or woman our Order stood in defense of the rights of all.

PROMOTING Freedom

“ Faith in Action”

Our  ancient and honourable fraternity calls, therefore, upon all Protestants by whatever name known, who love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity and in truth, to enlist under its banner and to take their part in the religious regeneration of the world. With Protestantism aroused and faith kindled our religion would sweep the nations, to the utter destruction of every form of error and superstition.

Our Modern Crusades

Our Objectives of Protecting and Promoting the Faith as well as putting it into Practice, provide us with modern day Crusades. The principle has remained unchanged in over a thousand years and is based on our Order acting as a Watchman on guard against any and all threats to Our Faith. Today the threat from militant Islam remains, but less obvious threats like secularism, an intolerant scientific community, or social issue pressure groups which all seek to undermine the influence and even freedom to practice our faith are the enemies we must combat.
Our Crusades range from charitable activities to constitutional campaigns, but they all have one thing in common, our defence of the faith.

The Present Dangers and Threats to Our Faith and Freedom
Many Question why there remains a need for a Military Order to defend the faith, others see Christianity as a passive, peaceful faith almost thriving on persecution others doubt that the actions of few will make any difference. In short answer to these questions we urge readers to look up, to have faith in God and to realise he asks us to act and to contend for our faith. Then to look out and see the clear and present dangers that threaten the church today, and finally to look in to your own heart and conscience and ask what can you do.

Our World Watch Feature allows us to look out and survey the battlefield that lies ahead, to identify the enemy and where our actions will have most impact. To be forewarned is to be forearmed, so we encourage each of you to begin your own personal Crusade, to stand as watchmen and women beside us identifying the dangers and sounding the alarm to rouse others to action.
