Today we mark VE Day across our nation. In May 1945 Nazi Germany surrendered to the Allies and, after six long years of fighting, the war in Europe came to an end. Millions of people up and down the country greeted the news with bonfires, bunting, parades and parties, and there was singing and dancing in the streets.

Many of our members served with distinction in the Allied forces, with families and communities all doing their bit on the home front. This day 75 years ago saw the end of the war and the defeat of fascism.

This year as we face our own modern national crisis we are having to do things differently. We would urge Encampments which had plans for VE Day events to run them virtually.
