Royal Knights

Today members of the Order had the pleasure of welcoming The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Ballymena as they visited the town. William and Kate visited Ballymena, County Antrim on the second day of their trip to Northern Ireland.

The couple were at the Braid Centre where they met young people involved in film and arts projects, and we had the privilege of being a part of the crowd which welcomed them to the town.

Royal visits are a great opportunity for the people of Northern Ireland to demonstrate their loyalty and even surprise visits where the public are not informed due to security concerns still generate great spontaneous support and turn out.

The second day of the Royal Visiti had started with a private meeting in Hillsborough Castle with members of the police force who have been affected by mental health issues. Yesterday they had visited Windsor Park and are returning home with Northern Ireland football shirts for the children.

As an Order the Knights of Malta have long pledged allegiance to the House of Windsor and after one such Loyal Address received commendation from the then King Edward VII on the occasion of his coronation.

Prince William and Kate last visited Northern Ireland in 2016.
